“When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars you set in place, what are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them?” (Psalm 8:3-4 NLT).
Why would God, in all his greatness and power think about and care for us so much that He gave up His only Son to die on the cross for us? Who are we to deserve such love? This is a question I oftentimes ask myself knowing how flawed I am. The more I kept pondering of the goodness and grace of God especially this past week, I was reminded of the story and life of Saul also known as Paul particularly his journey to faith as accounted in Acts chapters 9.
I would like to think that Saul was a passionate and committed man. Whatever he did, he did it wholeheartedly and with great commitment. However, as his story starts off in Acts chapter 9, he had what I would like to call a “misplaced focus“. He was persecuting the believers and putting them in prison. I believe in essence that Saul was spiritually blind. When a person is spiritually blind, what is seeming “good” and “right” is actually very wrong. However, they are not enlightened and have no revelation of the truth; they do not know better… and in effect can do no better!
As Acts 9 begins, I can only imagine how the believers were feeling knowing that this man was doing everything he could to “shut them down/silence them/destroy them” because of their faith BUT GOD stepped in just in the nick of time!Isn’t it beautiful to know that even when it seems like the enemy has got you completely you surrounded,God is watching, ready to step in?!Psalm 34:19 reads,”Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all” and Romans 12:19 says,”Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord”.Whatever the situation, God is indeed in control and he will fight on our behalf. There is always victory in Jesus Christ.
Saul’s life is a great example of how sometimes all you need is that ONE encounter with Jesus and your life is transformed forever. Saul’s name was later changed to Paul and he went around preaching about the Lord And Saviour Jesus Christ even writing a significant portion of the New Testament!
You are never too undone for God to use you!All that is needed is a willing and open heart and all things are made new :-).
“For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; And the former shall not be remembered or come to mind”. (Isaiah 65:17 NKJV)
